8th Pacific Symposium on Radical Chemistry (PSRC-8)

Queensland University of Technology
(QUT, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia)

18 – 22 July, 2017

Welcome to PSRC-8 Website

We would like to extend an invitation for you to participate in the “8th Pacific Symposium on Radical Chemistry (PSRC-8)” to be held at the Gardens Point (inner city) campus of the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), in Brisbane, the capital city of the state of Queensland, Australia. The Symposium will be held from the 18th to the 22nd of July 2017.

The Pacific Symposium on Radical Chemistry represents an important platform for announcing and discussing advances in our understanding of the chemistry of free radicals. The Symposium, which runs every two years, is one of the three major international meetings on radical chemistry (the other two being the International Symposium on Organic Free Radicals and the EUCHEM Conference on Free Radical Chemistry). PSRC-8 in Brisbane will follow the highly successful PSRC-7 meeting that was held in Singapore in 2015. Previous, equally successful, symposia have been held in Vancouver (2013), Shirahama (2011), Shanghai (2009), Heron Island (2007), Daejeon (2006), and Kanazawa (2003).
The symposium will cover all aspects of free radical chemistry and will bring together industrial and academic chemists from all over the world to report their latest discoveries in the fields of synthetic radical reactions, radical polymerizations, mechanistic insights into important radical reactions, new radical-based functional molecules and materials, as well as all aspects of radicals impacting in biology and medicine. The scientific program of PSRC-8 will include plenary lectures and invited lectures as well as poster sessions.

Brisbane is widely recognized as a modern, clean and picturesque city close to beautiful beaches, rain forests and islands. Brisbane’s semi-tropical climate makes it perfect for a southern hemisphere winter conference, and we intend to take advantage of this to include excursions as part of the meeting.

As a further advantage, the symposium has been scheduled to run immediately before and therefore marry with, the dates of the Royal Australian Chemical Society’s 100th year, Centenary Congress. This major conference will be held in Melbourne, Victoria from 23rd – 28th July, 2017 (www.racicongress.com).

PSRC-8 delegates therefore have the opportunity to participate in the focused, free radical symposium in Brisbane before progressing on to the broader, multi-themed congress made up of the RACI National Centenary Conference, the 17th Asian Chemical Congress (17ACC), the 6th Asian Conference on Coordination Chemistry (ACCC6), the Asia Hub for e-Drug Discovery Symposium (AHeDD 2017) , the 11th Asian Federation for Medicinal Chemistry’s International Medicinal Chemistry Symposium (AIMECS 2017), the World Conference on Carbon (Carbon 2017), the Industrial Chemistry/Chemical Engineering Annual Conference of Australia and New Zealand (Chemeca 2017), the 8th International Conference on Green and Sustainable Chemistry (GSC8) and Tetrahedron, the18th Asian Edition Tetrahedron Symposium.

I warmly invite you to make plans to travel to Australia to participate in this marvelous opportunity to celebrate progress in chemistry in 2017.

Prof. Steven Bottle, QUT
